Meet Hadley

✨ Meet Hadley ✨

Hadley is 7 years old and lives with 2q37 deletion syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that impacts her health and development.

2q37 deletion syndrome is a rare genetic condition that happens when a small piece is missing from the tip of the 2nd chromosome (called “2q37”). Chromosomes are like instruction books for our bodies, and when a piece is missing, it can affect how a child grows and develops.

Every child with 2q37 deletion is unique. The strengths and challenges can look very different from one child to another. Hadley has overcome so many medical challenges and will have to for the rest of her life.

Hadley was born with complex heart defects and has already undergone three major procedures, including a thoracotomy in 2017, a heart defect closure in 2020, and a valve repair in 2021. She continues to need yearly cardiology follow-ups and may need more procedures as she grows.

Hadley’s journey has included many challenges beyond her heart. She was diagnosed with eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), a condition that causes inflammation in her esophagus and makes eating uncomfortable. She also lives with epilepsy, which brings seizures and requires careful monitoring. At around age 6, she had a diaphragmatic hernia that required surgical repair. In addition, Hadley experiences developmental delays, autism, and a language impairment, which affects how she learns, processes information, and communicates with others.

Despite the obstacles, Hadley continues to move forward with determination. With the right supports, she can still learn, grow, and thrive just in her own way and at her own pace.
